As part of our Meet the Board series, we sat down with audioadpro advisory board member and Chief Technology Officer Liam Bateman to explore the key moments in his journey, advice on building a career in tech, and his perspective on the future of the industry.
Liam has spent the last 15 years at the forefront of technology leadership. Now, as an advisor, non-exec and investor, he helps businesses scale, develop their teams, and make strategic technology decisions.
Here’s what Liam had to say…
- Having led and scaled tech teams over the years, what have been the most formative moments in your journey?
The moments I look back on most fondly are the ones where you’re in a room with people all driving towards the same goal, building something together. The defining moments tend to be the late nights getting a project over the line, or solving a key problem when it really matters. I’ve been fortunate to experience that many times, and I’m lucky to now call many of the teams I’ve worked with friends.
- As an advisory board member and CTO at audioadpro, what aspects of the company’s mission and approach resonate with you most?
I never set out to do advisory work, and I’ve only taken on a small number of roles, choosing ones that keep my passion for entrepreneurship and technology burning. I believe that being surrounded by great people is an easy win.
With audioadpro, that connection was immediate. Within minutes of meeting Michael and Roger, I knew I wanted to be involved.
There’s a real energy in the business, a clear sense of purpose and drive that’s hard to ignore. What stands out most is the balance they’ve struck, using technology to deliver at scale while keeping people at the centre of what they do. That combination is rare.
- Looking across the tech landscape today, which trends or innovations are you most excited about, and why?
We’re living through a period of rapid change, where the pace of innovation is accelerating. AI is the obvious focus, not just in how it improves productivity or coding, but in the entirely new products and experiences it enables.
It still feels like we’re at the very beginning of what’s possible. In many ways, this reminds me of the early days of writing my first “Hello World” application in the early 2000s. It’s exciting to feel that sense of possibility again.
- For someone starting their career in technology, which skills or mindset would you prioritise developing first?
It’s an uncertain time as the industry adjusts to the impact of AI, and the reality is that no one knows exactly where it will land. But the fundamentals haven’t changed.
Technology will continue to evolve, but the core skills remain the same, problem solving, adaptability, and resilience. Those are the traits that carry people through change.
Beyond that, you need to genuinely enjoy it. The reality of working in tech is not always what it looks like from the outside. The perks fade quickly if you don’t enjoy solving problems and keeping up with constant change.
Our thanks to Liam for sharing his insights with us and for the expertise he continues to bring to audioadpro as both a member of the advisory board and our CTO. We’re excited to see what lies ahead for the sector.
